Students from That's Dancing! Dance Education for Adults in Bradenton won top awards at the Starpower National Talent Championships.

The event was June 28 at the Dolphin Resort and Convention Center at Walt Disney World, Orlando.

The Starfire Dancers team of Jeanne Wacker, Margy Carraway, Vickie Inglese, Michelle McCaffrey, Suzy Berinsky and Barbara Bensman competed in the adult small group division for four to nine dancers.

Their tap dance routine, created by choreographer Bonnie Gray to "Puttin' On The Ritz," won a platinum medal with a near perfect score. It also won them a "Special Judges Recognition -- The CLASS ACT Award" and the national title of Best Adult Small Group in all dance categories.

As a soloist, Berinsky won a platinum medal for her tap routine to "Get Happy" and received the Highest Score trophy for tap solos.

The dancers, ranging in age from their 40s to early 80s, are students of Gray's That's Dancing! program and study at the Historic Manatee Central Building, 515 Ninth St. E. In addition to performing, they enter competition three or four times a year.
