Manatee County stands down

MANATEE COUNTY -Emergency operations officials rescinded an evacuation order for the county’s mobile home residents this morning and are now demobilizing shelters following news that Tropical Storm Fay would pass the area by.

Non-emergency county offices, however, will remain closed. They are expected to reopen Wednesday.

Staffing at the Manatee County Emergency Operations Center, which had reached a peak of more than 120 staffers Monday, will be reduced to a skeleton crew of about a dozen today, said Capt. Larry Leinhauser, public safety spokesman.

More than 220 residents made their way to the county’s five open shelters as of early Tuesday morning, officials said.
