Perhaps a little less rhetoric and a little more factual reporting...The media had me going out and buying wood for my coffin..How bout stop predicting where a hurricane will hit when its 800 miles away...Cuz the fact is even with all your satellites and dopplers and your Eye in the skies, you dont have any more of a clue than we do..

I've had it with the media hype over this storm. The national media is still hyping that it may return to Florida as a hurricane. The National Hurricane center is NOT predicting that. I'm surprised at the total shutdown of all government yesterday. I would like to see an accounting of how much tax money these shutdowns cost us?

I had family in California contact me to see if everything was ok - was the house still standing. They couldn't believe the hype was so overdone when reassured that I just sat on the porch watching for rain ... that never came.

Media hype. Predictions. Half arse reporting. It all applies to not only the hurricanes but all the other garbage that is spewed by the media. I'm to the point I have no idea who or what to believe anymore! I heard one reporter say that "Faye SLAMMED into the Keys and is expected to SLAM into the same area that Charley hit 4 years ago". Why not just the facts "TS Faye made landfall in the keys on Monday and is anticipated to turn towards somewhere along the south west coast of Florida sometime on Tuesday." Yes, the facts aren't as exciting as SLAMMED. Floridians KNOW that this is hurricane season. Floridians KNOW that you gotta watch the weather report at least every 4 days and more often when a storm is approaching. We don't need some bimbo who can't even say Lake Oackachobee (?sp) correctly telling us about hurricanes. And for pete sakes - if the storms are so bad, why the hel*l are they standing out there with a mic on the beach. COMMON SENSE. They want credibility with news reporting - well that credibility is very lacking when they have no COMMON SENSE!!!! Could you imagine if nothing was reported and holy hel*l broke loose? Damed if they do -- damed if they don't.... just forget the hype please!

And if the media doesn't predict the WORST and the WORST HAPPENS then what will you say?
It's sort of like taking a walk in the savanna lands of Florida . .. you know there are rattle snakes out there that could kill you with one of their venomous bites but you still listen to the cautions and act accordingly.I like the HOT weather chicks out on the beach with their rain drenched t-shirts and soggy wet hair but then again I'm a P I G and that sort of comment is expected.du Duct
Oink!

And yet, despite the hype and dire predictions, how many people were actually prepared for this storm taking a turn for the worse? At one point NOAA was predicting it to be a category two hurricane as it made landfall just north of Charlotte Harbor. A two to three day warning is barely enough for safe evacuations.
What if this storm pulled a Charley, rapidly intensified and veered off course? Would many of you now be whining that we did not get enough information, that "they" didn't properly prepare us?
In hind sight this storm was certainly overhyped just as the weather channel and the 24 hour news stations do with everything. Keep an eye on your local station, those that know more about the local impact.
How can anyone be critical of government offices or businesses that erred on the side of safety? What should they have done? Monitored the storm and called off workers at the last minute or maybe send them home in the middle of a storm?
As anyone involved with emergency services can tell you, prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Hey Ductape....the media is not SUPPOSE To PREDICT ANYTHING !!! They are to report was has already taken place and what is happening NOW...They can no more PREDICT the future than you can...Be responsible for your OWN actions...Tell me what has happened, tell me the wind direction and where the storm IS..Ill figure out the rest and decide what is best for me..Not some other schmuck behind another keyboard !!!

Hey none(BTW love your tag) . . .the media is in business to MAKE MONEY and they MAKE MONEY by selling ADVERTISERS and ADVERTISERS want lots of people watching their "media."
But weather is sort of different. They are in the prediction business and not the one of historical aspect except for the day's news.
But we as a people love "predictions" and we love to play the é??å??*
*in Cantonese that's "bingo."

ALl media outlets did exactly what we expect them to do...report on the weather and give us all the options...from Local, Tampa to the National weather Center...they all said the same..and I for one after living through Charlie...listen.

I'm sorry. You people are acting like a bunch of morons. The mathematical computer models forecast the paths of the storms. The reporter just reports what the model says. That is their lowly job. You all give the reporters too much credit and too much blame.
And..Duct..you of all people, after having worked at a tv station should know this.
