Nation briefs: Airline turns to eBay to auction tickets

JetBlue Airways Corp. is auctioning off more than 300 roundtrip flights and six vacation packages this week on eBay, with opening bids set between 5 and 10 cents.

The flights are to more than 20 destinations, including four "mystery" JetBlue Getaways Vacation packages to undisclosed locations.

The airlines said customers will be able to access the auctions through www.jetblue.com/ebay.

Former mayor dies after shooting

The former mayor of the St. Louis suburb who was badly wounded when a gunman opened fire at a February city council meeting has died of complications connected to his injuries.

Mary Jo Wich, a spokeswoman for the St. Anthony's Medical Center, said Mike Swoboda died Saturday after a stay in hospice care. He would have turned 70 this month.

Resident Charles Thornton killed a police officer outside Kirkwood City Hall on Feb. 7, then burst into a city council meeting and killed four more people. Swoboda was shot twice in the head. His health suffered setbacks in recent months.

Sunday's T-ball game last of Bush's term

With only about four months left in office, President Bush hosted his last T-ball game on the South Lawn on Sunday, ending a tradition he has carried on for seven years.

For Sunday's matchup, the 20th and final game in the series, the president and first lady Laura Bush invited sons and daughters of active-duty members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.

Bush began the T-ball tradition on the South Lawn in 2001 to promote fitness for children and stir interest in baseball.
